This body of work Human: Tree, draws inspiration from my personal experience of grappling with a sense of overwhelming magnitude in my inner world. Through this work, I seek to explore the complex interplay and duality between human ambition and limitation, burdens and weaknesses, and attachment and not belonging. The central concept is conveyed through the metaphoric use of trees.
The fragile trunk represents our physicality and the expansive crown conveys what we experience and perceive in our minds. I tried to draw this condition that sometimes what we are dealing with emotionally and mentally is not in balance with what we are able to carry. In addition, if you take a look at this painting upside down, it can be seen we still have the same form of a tree! The question that the audience may face is where is the root? Is there any land?
In this body of work, the trees, whether depicted individually or collectively, consistently exceed the frame’s boundaries, emphasizing the struggle between the desire for growth and the constraints of physical reality. This duality is further emphasized by the use of negative and positive space, adding depth and complexity to my exploration of the human condition. Through this visual language, the work invites the viewer to contemplate this paradoxical dialectic and to reflect on their own experience.
